Books: The Cheapest Vacation You Can Buy

From Goodreads: Krista’s world crumbled when her soul mate and Protector, Mark, walked away from her, severing the sacred link they had shared their entire lives. Faced with uncertainty, Krista questions her role as a Guide while struggling with the ramifications of life without him. Her only desire now is to seek the truth behind Mark’s heartbreaking betrayal, no matter what the consequences. With the help of her friends, Krista risks everything, including her soul, to march into the den of the Dark Angel, Victor. Their only chance for survival is for Krista to find the courage to accept the new role fate has bestowed upon her, even if it means losing Mark, forever.

This book concludes the awesome Saving Angels series by Tiffany King, and I must say I am absolutely impressed.  King is a fantastic writer, and this final novel is just as compelling and mind-blowing as the first two.  Whereas the first novel, Meant To Be, stole my heart, and the second novel, Forgotten Souls, broke it, this final novel has made amends and my heart is whole again.  I love this series, and I love this novel.  The ending really made me smile because I never saw it coming, especially as King sent me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as events unfolded, truths were realized, and Krista was forced to make impossible choices.  In all honesty, I’m extremely sad to see the series come to an end; King is a very gifted writer with a vivid imagination, and I have fallen in love with this series.  However, I am excitedly awaiting King’s reveal of her next writing endeavor, which I am certain will be just as amazing as her past three novels.  Five stars.

From Goodreads: Any chance Krista Miller had at a normal teenage life is now gone. Less than a year ago she lived under the radar, avoiding any relationships that would send her emotional sensitivities out of control. Little did she know that her life was destined for something more. Something that will test her very soul.

After facing certain death at the hands of the man responsible for their mysterious past, Krista and her friends learn the truth behind their origins and the purpose for their newly discovered abilities. Now, they must band together to fulfill their inherited, sacred duty. As Guides and Protectors, they must save Mankind’s Forgotten Souls before they are lost forever.

King has done it again in this riveting sequel to Meant to Be!  I was immediately drawn into the story as it picks up where Meant to Be left off, continuing the tale I fell in love with only a few short months ago.  King’s novels have very quickly become my top reads this year, and I am excited for, and anxiously awaiting, more work by this genius author.

All the wonderful characters are back in this sequel, giving the reader more of Krista and her beau Mark, along with an array of new characters as Krista and her friends delve deeper into their roles as protectors and guides.  This novel kept me on the edge of my seat as Krista, Mark, and the gang learn to harness their powers and protect each other in the face of evil, a very serious evil that is bent on demolishing the bonds between the guides and their protectors forever.  Much darker than Meant to Be, King has created a novel in which the reader isn’t sure whether good will triumph over evil, leaving the reader glued to the pages to find out what happens next.

The. End. Killed. Me.  Seriously, although there was foreshadowing along the way, I didn’t really think it would happen, and of course, King floored me with an ending that left me reeling and dying to get my hands on the next book in the series, especially as Forgotten Souls leaves the reader hanging.

I highly suggest picking up a copy of Meant to Be prior to reading Forgotten Souls as the stories build off one another, so jumping right in to Forgotten Souls without reading the prequel may be quite confusing.  Read them both.  Five stars.

I also recommend reading King’s short story in The Glassheart Chronicles, as it is a prequel to Meant to Be, giving the reader some interesting background on some of the characters and how the protectors and guides came to be.

From Goodreads:  Krista Miller feels like she has lived her entire life in a glass box with her every emotion on display. She can’t help feeling like a defect as her sensitivities have made her socially inept and without any real friends; the one exception being the boy that visits her each night in her dreams.

Krista’s emotions are put to the test when a move to California triggers a devastating change to her fantasy world. The nightly comfort that the boy provides has now become a recurring nightmare as he is taken from her by an unseen force.

Struggling to appear normal, Krista enrolls in a new school and finds it to be nothing like she thought. Her new life is sent spiraling out of control from a strange connection with a boy, Mark, who claims to know all her secrets.

As Krista begins to explore the emotions that Mark evokes in her, secrets about their mysterious past and their predestined purpose threatens to separate them just when they have found each other.

This was a phenomenal novel!  I am always extremely impressed when authors come up with a completely original idea and make it come alive on the page, and King is a superb writer that does just that.  Krista and Mark are beautiful characters that I want to meet in person—I want them to be real; their caring personalities and wonderful abilities make me wish we could be friends.  King has written their dispositions and life events so convincingly that I truly feel like I know them.

This novel was a rollercoaster ride for me; the sensations I felt as I read were extremely real: anger, gratitude, sadness, anxiety… I felt it all and, on more than one occasion, I actually yelled at the characters, as if they could hear me… I could see it all in my mind’s eye, and that, for me, is what really makes a book phenomenal.  I felt like I became one with Krista, feeling her pain, her confusion, her anger, and it amazes me that I felt so strongly throughout the entire novel, especially as one of Krista’s abilities is her strong sense of emotions—I really connected with her on that point as I read, which is a testament to King’s sheer writing capabilities.  I admit that some of the characters really upset me, such as Matt, and even Krista’s mother, and on more than one occasion I wanted to punch them in the face (professional, I know).  But, King has created these characters to evoke this exact emotion, and as King was able to induce these feeling in me, as the reader, I know that she is destined for great things as an author!

The suspense in the novel kept me on edge as I read, and King creates some wonderfully romantic moments, as well as some nail biting moments in which my anxiety for the characters was overwhelming.  I absolutely cannot wait for the sequel, which is actually set to come out soon (YES!).  I am truly in love with this novel and highly suggest that everyone reads it, sooner rather than later.  You will not be disappointed!  Five stars.

Books-I'm-Grateful-I-Read-Hop

Happy November! For my stop on the Books I’m Grateful I Read Giveaway Hop, I’m giving away a signed paperback of White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout, as well as lots of signed swag and goodies.  Why?  Because I’m grateful I read this amazing novel–the novel that started my love affair with all books by Armentrout, and, well, swag is awesome, right?

Synopsis of White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout:

White Hot KissOne kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

This book is FABULOUS, and I’ve been lucky enough to meet Jennifer L. Arementrout many times over the past few years… the latest giving me an opportunity to pick up a copy of White Hot Kiss for giveaway, because I am always looking to give back to my faithful readers, and what better to do so than with a signed giveaway of one of my favorite books?

JOrdyn TFBFrom Goodreads: By USA Today Bestselling Author Tiffany King comes the final installment in the Daemon Hunter Series.

I have finally come to grips with the purpose of my existence. I am a weapon in the battle against evil. Accepting that doesn’t mean I can’t still wish to have a normal life sometimes.
Well…Normal in my world.

My friends and family members are angelic beings, my boyfriend is an ex soul trader, and most of my time is spent training and hunting daemons.

After rescuing my friends from an eternity of torture in the Caverns of Gloom, I may have accidentally opened a gateway to hell, unleashing an army of daemons to run wild throughout the city.

Once again, I will do what I was created to do.

I am the only hope. I am Jordyn.

_________________________________________________________________________

This novella is the perfect end to the amazing Deamon Hunter series, and I just adore it. Tiffany King is a master storyteller, able to transcend genres from the paranormal to contemporary, YA to NA; King had indeed written some amazing novels, and the paranormal YA Daemon Hunter series is definitely one of my favorite series out there. A spinoff to Kings first ever series, The Savings Angels, the Daemon Hunter series is its own story; no need to read The Savings Angels series to understand what’s happening in any of the three Deamon Hunger books, but since The Saving Angels series is so amazing, you’re going to want to. Trust me.

This final installment is, like the title denotes, a final battle between heaven and hell. Jordyn, a daemon killer created by heaven, is a kick butt character who is strong yet fragile, smart yet wild, capable yet unsure of herself, and King blends these traits all together to create a realistic young woman set on doing what’s right, what she’s been created to do, even if that means giving the ultimate sacrifice. Jordyn is far from perfect, though, and her inner monologue, questioning of herself, show her vulnerability, a side she attempts to hide from all those around her.

This novella is indeed sad, but triumphant as well—King delivers punch after punch in this amazing conclusion, and readers will find themselves on pins and needles as the final battle looms ever closer. Five stars.

Just-Couldn't-Put-It-Down-July - Copy

For my stop on the Just Couldn’t Put it Down Giveaway Hop, I’m giving away a signed paperback of The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay as well as lots of signed swag and goodies.  Why?  Because I just couldn’t put this book down, and swag is awesome, right?

Synopsis of The Sea of Tranquility by Kayja Millay:

Sea of TranquilityI live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck. I am pressed so hard against the earth by the weight of reality that some days I wonder how I am still able to lift my feet to walk.

Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her—her identity, her spirit, her will to live—pay.

Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at seventeen years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.

Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding—or if he even wants to.

The Sea of Tranquility is a rich, intense, and brilliantly imagined story about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.

This book is AMAZING, and I was lucky enough to meet Katja Millay at Book Bash a few weeks ago, where I picked up two copies of The Sea of Tranquility, one for me, and one for giveaway, because I am always looking to give back to my faithful readers, and what better to do so than with a signed giveaway of one of my favorite books?

Too bad she can’t help being attracted to the way he pushes her buttons, both politically and physically. As they work on her thesis, Spring finds there’s more to Henry than his old money and argyle sweaters…but can she drop the loud-and-proud act long enough to let him in? My name is Olivia Bloom and I. Am. Free.

I left for LA with everything I owned piled into my old Volkswagen and dreams of becoming a costume designer. Little did I know I’d wind up designing for a lingerie company—yeah, not sure how I landed this gig—and taken under the wing of two young Hollywood insiders. The fashion shows and parties were great, but life really got exciting when the seriously hottest lead singer of my favorite band started to fall for me.

How does someone like me, an ordinary girl from Pittsburgh, wind up in the arms of the world’s sexiest rock star—surrounded by celebrities, fashion, and music—and not be eaten alive? Berkeley is everything I’ve ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, but the paparazzi, the tabloids, the rumors, it’s all getting a bit too crazy. My life has become every girl’s dream come true, if only I don’t blink and lose it all…

Between Justin’s attention-grabbing tattoos, cigarette smoking, and bad boy attitude Brittni quickly chalked him up as “Mr. Wrong.” But his charm was unrelenting, and Brittni’s decision to give Justin a chance quickly turned into the worst choice she ever made.

So that she might be able to move forward.

Now she’s stuck with Justin—literally—and the complicated web of misunderstandings that tied up the truth for two years is about to unravel.

18107073From Goodreads: With the holiday season upon her, Jamie Foster is once again stressed about making her yearly visit back home to Woodfalls, still single. Fate intervenes in the form of Grant Johnson, a boy she grew up with, who catches the same flight while returning home from a business trip.

When a malfunction sends their plane crashing down on the runway upon takeoff, Jamie and Grant decide to rent a car and make the nine-hundred-mile drive home together. Ironically for them, anything that can go wrong does as they face one hysterical hurdle after another.

Christmas may finally bring Jamie the gift of love she has always wanted if she and Grant can manage to overcome a few obstacles along the way. Ho-ho-ho!

_____________________________________________

Jamie Foster isn’t looking forward to coming home to Woodfalls this year for Christmas.  Not with her mother constantly nagging her about her love life.  To make matters worse, Grant Johnson, the boy Jamie had a crush on as a young girl, but learned to hate due to his incessant teasing, is also on the same flight.  Add in Jamie’s fear of flying and her inability to keep her head around the beautiful but unavailable Grant, and Jamie’s holiday just became a hilarious “nightmare.”

King quickly engages her readers with the development of her characters and their many mishaps as they attempt to get home for Christmas, and I really enjoyed getting to know both Jamie and Grant as this novella progressed.  It’s the perfect length and extremely laugh-out-loud worthy as it all unfolds, from one hysterical misfortune to the next.  It reminded me of Trains, Planes, and Automobiles in that Jamie and Grant are thwarted at every turn, and this comical yet romantic novella will leave readers feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

One can’t help but fall in love with Grant and Jamie as they attempt to make it through the holidays, and their many social faux pas and situations make Jamie’s anxiety and Grants suave personality the perfect hysterical fit.  Nothing goes as planned from the very beginning, and I just adored this novella, especially as it’s set in the world of Woodfalls, the same world that King’s amazing novel, No Attachments, resides within.  Although completely separate and a stand alone, I’ve been waiting to fall back into Woodfalls, and King once again delivers readers an enticing and beautiful story, this time in the form of a lovely Christmas novella, just in time for the holiday season.  If you’re looking for a cozy, cute, and often hilarious read to get into the Christmas spirit, Cross Country Christmas is a must. Five stars.

____________________________________________________________________________

Ashton Garrison walked away from her current life to escape the one thing she’s unwilling to face. She knows her decision may be selfish, but in the end, leaving will be far less painful for everyone. Now she has one goal: live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments. What Ashton doesn’t count on is how fate always seems to find a way to screw up any good plan.

Nathan Lockton specializes in locating a mark. He’s done it over and over again—no attachments and no emotion necessary. What he thought was a routine lost-and-found job has forced Nathan to deal with something he has always ignored—his feelings. He’s never fallen for a target, yet he’s never met anyone like Ashton. Now deep in a dilemma, Nathan must decide to follow his heart, or complete the job he was hired to do.

Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?

18295681From Goodreads: Lies.
My so-called family lied.
My friends lied.
The only guy I ever liked lied.
My mentor, the one I was supposed to trust, lied.

My entire existence is built on lies and yet now they want my help. Scratch that, now
they need my help. I’ll play the good soldier, but I am no longer the person I was before. This time it will be on my terms. I will trust no one.

I am a weapon. I am Jordyn.

_______________________________________________

USA Today bestselling author Tiffany King does not disappoint in her latest release, Jordyn and the Caverns of Gloom, the highly anticipated sequel to her impressive novel Jordyn that released early February of this year.  A spinoff series to the Saving Angels novels, the Jordyn books pick up a few years later with a cast of new characters taking the forefront while the beloved characters from Saving Angels step out of the limelight—but are not forgotten, and still play a crucial part throughout Jordyn’s development.

Filled with lies, secrets, angst, and romance, this second novel is even better than the first, pushing Jordyn to face her inner self and decide where she truly belongs.  It’s a story of healing through acceptance and redemption, but it’s a kicks butt story the entire way.  Although hurt by the betrayal of her loved ones, and the revelation of the truth behind her past, Jordyn has a good heart and refuses to allow her ego to stand in the way of helping those who need her, but she’s certainly not a push over, either.  With trepidation, Jordyn returns to her family only to embark on a hunt for her missing friends, and traveling to the Caverns of Gloom is just part of the plan to save her loved ones.  The other part pushes Emrys and Jordyn back together again… but Jordyn’s walls are higher than ever in his presence, and rightly so.  Who’s side is he on, anyway?

I devoured this novel in one sitting; it’s extremely fast paced and intriguing, and I loved Jordyn’s struggles as she embarked on her mission.  Perhaps one of the hardest things to do as a human is to forgive and forget, and Jordyn isn’t exactly human, so you can imagine the difficulty she has throughout the novel, especially when it comes to trusting Emrys.  King presents the story in such a way that is causes readers to question loyalties on all sides and, as it all comes to a head, sit on pins and needles as the battle scenes unfold and the true plan of escape is revealed.

Jordyn is still a kick butt heroine and I loved watching her fight for her family, grappling with acceptance, forgiveness, and love.  She’s a great character, as are they all, and getting a little glimpse of hell was extremely cool, especially with the ending and the slight cliffhanger that ensues.  Book three can’t come out fast enough!

Overall, this is a great sequel that you won’t want to miss.  Five stars.

UtopYA 2013 was one of the best experiences of my life, and I think the 300+ participants that were there with me this year would agree 100%. Right now, tickets for next year are on an early-bird sale, but they’ll no longer be on discounted sale after July 31.  In fact, you won’t be able to buy them again until Black Friday when they will be released for full price admission.  But never fear!! We’d love to see you down in Nashville, Tennessee, with us in 2014, and so, with the permission of UtopYA founder Janet Wallace, many authors and bloggers have come together to create TWO epic prize packs complete with one ticket to UtopYA 2014 (for 3-day pass to conference, admission to awards and after party, Friday night book signing, and Sunday write-in), a UtopYA 2013 t-shirt signed by a majority of the authors in attendance, signed books, ebooks, and swag.  The sheer amount of prizes and support from authors and bloggers for this giveaway just goes to show you how much we adore UtopYA and each other, and we’d really like to see you there (prize pack does NOT include transportation to the conference or lodging, you’ll have to provide that on your own, sorry).

Below is a list of what each Prize Pack includes:

NoAttahcments_amazonOne of my favorite authors, TIffany King, will be releasing her lastest novel, No Attachments, on April 30, 2013!!!  I cannot wait!  The cover, designed Sarah Hansen from Okay Creations, and synopsis, below, have me on pins and needles already!  This is going to be good!

___________________________________________________________________________

Synopsis:

Ashton Garrison walked away from a privileged life in order to hide from the one thing she’s not willing to face. She knows she left behind a trail of pain, but in the long run, her betrayal will hurt less than the truth. She now has one goal: Live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments. She has high hopes that a move to new surroundings will provide the escape she desires, but what Ashton doesn’t count on is how fate always seems to find a way to screw up any good plan. Sometimes, when love comes knocking, the pull is too strong not to answer. Suddenly, what she thought she wanted to escape from is what Ashton now wants more than anything.

Nathan Lockton has one mission: find his target and complete the task he was hired to do—no attachments and no emotion necessary. He’s done it over and over again. What he thought was a typical lost-and-found job has turned into a life examining moment as Nathan is forced to deal with something he has always ignored–his feelings. Now faced with a decision, Nathan must choose to either follow his heart or complete the job.

Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?

And then I met Emrys. Okay, so my mentor and family hate him, but probably for good reason. After-all, he is a Soul Trader, and they aren’t the most trust worthy beings. But, he is sooo hot with his green eyes, leather jacket and the sexiest tattoo you’ve ever seen running down his back. And-he doesn’t treat me like a project.

I’ve got myself in quite a little quandary here. Choosing between my responsibilities and the Trader that holds my heart is something I didn’t sign up for. Torn between two different worlds, I must now decide who to trust and who to walk away from. What’s a girl to do? See what I mean? I am an anomaly. I am Jordyn.

This wonderful spinoff novel really had me on pins and needles as I read.  It picks up a few years after the conclusion of the phenomenal Saving Angels series, and I was a complete fan girl stalker when I found out that King was working on a spinoff series!!  I absolutely adore the Saving Angels novels and couldn’t wait for this one to come out. And, I certainly wasn’t disappointed!  King has written another masterpiece, just like every other novel that came before it, and I am in absolute awe of her sheer writing abilities!

Truth be told, I wasn’t a real fan of Jordyn (the character) in the beginning… her lack of ability to follow the rules drove me a bit crazy, and her extreme cockiness and disregard for her family’s feelings really made me livid.  And yet, she’s completely and one hundred percent real.  Her thoughts and feelings, especially as the odd one out in a family of daemon killers, make complete and utter sense, and it is no wonder she falls for Emrys so quickly as he offers her a world of freedom, something she has yet to experience in her own niche with aunt and uncle.

And Emrys? He’s perfect.  If I were to have a book boyfriend, it’d definitely be him!  First of all, he has an s on the end of his name, which is something I’ve loved ever since I was in high school myself, though I very rarely meet someone with a plural name.  And second, he embodies the lovely bad boy image with his tattoos, leather jacket, and nonchalant attitude, making him my very own dream come true.  Let’s just say that he sets sparks flying as he enters the scene, and I adore him, just like Jordyn does.

Kings story flows seamlessly, taking readers along for the ride as Jordyn discovers her wants, needs, and abilities when it comes to love, daemons, and the truth about her past.  I was pleasantly surprised by the twist at the end of the novel, and I’m already dying for the next installment.  Five stars.

From Goodreads: They had a pact.
Leave the world behind much as they had lived it.
No one would miss them. No harm, no foul.
Their personal demons would be left behind once and for all.
It was the only thing they could count on.
It was all she had.

Madison Hanson has spent the last four years being a “shadow.” Her parents ignore her. The students at her school stopped talking to her years ago, and the majority of her teachers forget she’s even there. In her desperate yearning to leave her invisible life behind, Madison makes a pact with her only friend, James Garrison, to end their lives as inconspicuously as they live them. No fuss, no muss. No one would miss her and she would miss no one. Their plan is set, and it’s all she can count on. That is, until fellow student, Mitch Peterson, beats them to the punch. Everything Madison believed in is shaken to the core when she watches the aftermath of Mitch’s death unfold. By taking his own life, Mitch unwittingly saves hers. What a selfish prick.

She is now left with the daunting task of living. Trying to bury her demons once and for all, and finally trusting someone with her fragile existence.

Living is hell.
Death would have been so much easier.

It is no secret that Tiffany King is one of my all-time favorite authors.  I absolutely adore her work, and every single novel she’s written has been a 5 star in my book, from her lighthearted paranormal Saving Angels series to her more realistic, darker YA titles, Wishing For Someday Soon, Forever Changed, and Unlikely Allies. King has repeatedly blown me away, and her realistic novel, Miss Me Not is no different.

King is, once again, tackling a very difficult subject in this latest novel—that of suicide.  It’s a touchy subject, and some may have difficulty reading this book, but it’s an amazing story, one that needs to be told.  Yes, it will make you cry.  But it will also make you see the many hundreds of reasons that we should live, and that’s the point.  Being a teenager is an extremely tricky time in a young person’s life, and Miss Me Not is exactly the type of novel that so many teenagers need to read.  The situations are extremely realistic, though Dean may seem to be too good to be true (swoon), and Madison’s thoughts and feelings are easy to identify with.  I’m not sure if all teenagers think about suicide at some point or other, but I know when I was younger, I did, and my problems were nowhere near those of Madison, or Mitch, or James.

Though this is a very difficult topic to read about, I think it will help young adults very much when it comes to working through their own problems and choosing to live. Too many young people commit suicide every year, and the effects on those left behind are always devastating.  Mitch’s suicide is no different, and for Madison, it is a wake-up call, though she doesn’t realize just how much he’s saved her right away, and she still has to work through her own demons before she can come to terms with living.  Miss Me Not is extremely well written and I loved every minute of this amazing story, tears and all. It’s extremely touching and I highly suggest you pick it up stat!  Five stars.

Miss Me Not releases on November 23 and will only be 99 cents for its first weekend!

I LOVE Tiffany King!  Her books transport me to another world and captivate me from start to finish.  So it comes as no suprise that I am super excited for her upcoming novel, Miss Me Not!  And, check out that amazing, beautiful cover!  I love that the picture goes from front to back… OMG!  I CAN’T WAIT!
